Toilet problems we fix

Most toilet issues are small, irritating, and worth fixing properly the first time:

  • Constantly running — fill valve, flapper, or chain issue. Usually a $20 part and 30 minutes of labour.
  • Weak flush — could be flapper, water level, jets clogged with mineral buildup, or vent issue
  • Wobbly or rocking — needs new wax ring, possibly new closet flange
  • Leaking at the base — wax ring failure; needs prompt attention before subfloor damage
  • Leaking tank-to-bowl — gasket replacement
  • Crack in the porcelain — replacement; cracks don’t repair reliably
  • Slow refill — fill valve or water supply issue
  • Frequent clogs in one specific toilet — could be the toilet’s design (some low-flow models had issues), or a drain venting issue

Toilet replacement

If you’re replacing rather than repairing, the considerations are:

  • Standard vs comfort-height — comfort-height (17–19” rim) is significantly easier on knees, hips, and back. Standard recommendation for anyone over 50 or with mobility considerations.
  • Round vs elongated bowl — elongated is more comfortable; round fits in tighter spaces.
  • One-piece vs two-piece — one-piece is easier to clean (no seam); two-piece is less expensive.
  • Dual-flush — separate buttons for liquid vs solid waste, saves water.
  • Bidet seat compatibility — if you might add a bidet seat later, make sure the toilet supports it (electrical outlet within reach, compatible mounting).
  • Skirted vs traditional trapway — skirted models are easier to clean around the base.

We install brands across the price range — American Standard Cadet, TOTO Drake, Kohler Wellworth, Gerber Maxwell — and will quote whatever you want. We don’t push a specific brand; the best toilet is the one that fits your family’s needs and budget.

What’s included in installation

  • Disconnect and remove old toilet, including any rust-fused bolts (we have the tools for this)
  • Inspect closet flange — repair or replace if damaged
  • New wax ring or rubber gasket
  • New supply line (we replace these by default; old ones are a leak waiting to happen)
  • New bolts and caps
  • Set the toilet level on the flange, with shims if floor is uneven
  • Connect, fill, test, and check for leaks at every connection
  • Caulk the base if requested (we leave a small uncaulked gap at the back for leak visibility)
  • Haul away the old toilet
