Sewer line work — the underground plumbing most people never think about until something goes wrong

Your sewer line carries everything from sinks, toilets, showers, and laundry to the municipal main or your septic system. When it fails, the symptoms are unmistakable — slow drains everywhere, smells, backups, sewage in places it shouldn’t be.

Camera inspection

Most sewer issues start with a camera inspection. We send a flexible fibre-optic camera through your main cleanout, down to the connection point. The camera shows us:

  • Root intrusion (very common in clay-tile pipes from older Barrie/Bradford neighbourhoods)
  • Belly or sag in the pipe (settled section that traps debris)
  • Crack or partial collapse
  • Joint separation
  • Off-grade slope causing slow flow
  • Foreign objects (toys, wipes, anything)
  • Pipe material — important for repair planning

Camera inspection is a couple hundred dollars and pays for itself dozens of times over by avoiding wrong-guess repairs.

Repair options

Depending on what we find:

Hydro jetting — for root intrusion and grease buildup, a high-pressure water jet clears the line and cuts roots. Annual jetting is often the recommended maintenance for older clay-tile lines that can’t be replaced practically.

Spot repair / liner — for a single damaged section, we excavate, repair, and backfill that section only. Or for some situations, we can install a cured-in-place pipe liner inside the existing line.

Pipe bursting (trenchless) — for full replacement, we pull a new pipe through the existing line, breaking out the old pipe as we go. Minimal yard disturbance compared to traditional dig-and-replace.

Traditional excavation — sometimes the right answer is just to dig it up and replace. For shallower lines, less landscape investment, or when bursting isn’t feasible.

Tree roots

Tree roots are the #1 cause of sewer issues in mature Barrie and Bradford neighbourhoods with clay-tile sewers. Roots find tiny cracks or joint gaps, work their way in, then thrive in the constant water and nutrients. Once established, they grow to fill the pipe.

We treat with:

  • Mechanical removal (cutting blade on snake or jetter)
  • Foaming root killer (kills root tips, slows regrowth)
  • Annual maintenance program
  • Or full replacement if the line is past the point of treating

Municipal vs private responsibility

Generally, the sewer line on your property (from your home to the property line) is your responsibility. The portion from your property line to the municipal main is variable — some municipalities own up to the property line, others maintain a “service connection” beyond. We help you understand the boundary at the time of diagnosis.
